May 1, 2015, I toured Ken from Nebraska through Elko and into Lamoille canyon. The big surprise was Thomas Canyon. Ken and I were able to drive almost to the top at the TurnAround, higher than any other time we can remember to get that high this time of year.
Ken and I also hiked to the waterfall above the campground and beyond to the old, huge beaver dam that exploded a couple of years ago. No snow on the trail, just a few muddy spots. Vegetation is still in winter-mode, but it looks as though this year will be early for flowers and hiking.
We’ve had calls for shuttling the Ruby Crest Trail. One gentleman wants to hike late May which is usually way too early to get through, but it’s hard to guess this year conditions up high. Anyone have any information on the Trail up high? Pass it on to Cowboy John, 753-7825. Shuttle pickup is the campground early am and then to Harrison Pass for the drop off at trailhead.
