The Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital asked me to acquaint two OB-GYN physicians presently in residency, with the Elko. They wanted to hike so after picking them up at the Marriott Hotel in Elko, August 1, the three of us drove to the Ruby Mountains and walked to Island Lake.
When Janice and I hiked to Island Lake the week before flowers were at their peak, but Saturday with Scott and Radhika flowers were at seed stage. It’s a short season for plants at this elevation.
In the photo you can spot the island in the middle of the lake and a few blossoms, yellow Avens and orange Indian Paintbrush, at my feet. After lunch at O’Carrolls in Lamoille we watched the Black Box short movie in the Western Folklife Center back in Elko and headed back to the hotel.
